Web Design
Web design is not usually a skill that most trades people posses for obvious reasons. However that doesn't mean that's this should be overlooked when it comes to building a decent website. Because many tradespeople are either self-employed or have less than 5 employees working for them, many of them don't have a website at all or have only a very basic, brochure style site.
Given that most business for tradespeople comes from either word of mouth or from local directories, for most, there is little imperative for a high class website. But if you can stretch the budget, it is certainly beneficial to build a neat and functional site where people can find information about your business. Remember this site is a reflection on your business and will be many people's first impression of you. A website that is not updated, has poor navigation or does not render properly in all browsers will portray a negative impression of your business. Also remember that people may search on the Internet for your site once they here about your services. So rather than them land on the page of a directory (where other rival businesses are listed), it makes more sense that they are directed to a website exclusively about you!
With regards to design, our advice would be that you should opt for a simple and tidy design, with all the information that you think your customers and potential customers will need. This includes, address, phone number (landline and mobile), email address, the type of work you do and customer testimonials. You don't have to spend a fortune, just make sure the site is presentable.
