In my last few posts I have been discussing the pros and cons of different types of fencing and why they may or may not be the best option for your new fencing design or to add the finishing touch to your revamped garden.
A different type of fencing you may like to consider for your garden is cleft chestnut. These types of fencing are cheap but can be very decorative in the right garden. Cleft chestnut fencing is designed as a very upright solid fence panel in a woven basket like design. This would therefore potentially compliment a country garden or wildlife garden rather than a more formal garden with straight lines and contours. When put up, the woven design is joined at either end to secure it to straight oak laths which run from the top to the bottom, and the bottom section is then firmly placed into the ground.
Another benefit to using this type of fence is that it can be also altered to whatever fencing design is desired. You can move each individual panel of the fence to different intervals so you can create your own bespoke design to suit your garden.
If you wish to go out and buy a roll of the fencing, you can usually purchase it from good garden centres and DIY stores. It comes with the panels so close together they are nearly touching. The roll is the same kind of design that is attached to two oak wooden posts if your purchase fence panels, with galvanised wire running horizontally through it, the cleft chestnut palings going in the same direction.
