CCTV Fitters in Newry have successfully installed measures designed to prevent further damage to the vandalism-hit Monk’s Hill Cemetery, after a series of attacks left many families deeply traumatised.
A spokesperson for the security system experts, AlertSystems said, “The destruction of these graves at Monk’s Hill Cemetery is shocking and needless but, with the introduction of CCTV cameras at the site, hopefully there will be no further incidents.”
The company currently manage over 5000 security installations across the country and provide a range of security services such as, monitored alarm systems, Automatic Number Plate Recognition and Avigilon CCTV security systems.
AlertSystems acknowledges that, though their efforts will deter vandals with an advanced CCTV system have proved successful, it won’t prevent vandalism completely. However, the company assured families that with their help, culprits will be more easily caught by the local police.
Councillor Valerie Harte, whose mother’s grave was one targeted by the vandals, said “This has been a very traumatic time for all those families affected and indeed everyone with loved ones buried at Monk’s Hill Cemetery”. In addition to the CCTV system, the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) have promised to take preventative measures by establishing nightly patrols of the cemetery.
