Source: Cristiano Betta via FlickrManchester Police and Manchester City Council are teaming up to take a unique step in making local residents aware of the dangers of theft and burglaries by keeping doors and windows locked or open in their homes. St Anne’s Sq is hosting a life sized living room today, Tuesday 17th August, which has been dropped in to help launch the ‘Think Lock’ scheme.  Police and Council staff are hoping that if they can demonstrate how easy it is to leave yourself susceptible to property theft it will encourage people to take the simple yet necessary precautions to protect their belongings after statistics show that one in three properties are robbed through leaving a window or door open.

Police Test Door Security in Formby and Bootle

Source: emdot via FlickrPolice officers throughout Formby and Bootle are testing the security in homes with what can only be described as a “novel approach”. As part of ‘Operation Handle’, police officers test outdoor handles on exterior doors to see just how secure homes in the area are and to warn people how easy it is to leave your home susceptible to theft and break-ins. Although the burglary rate is low in the Formby area, (15 reported burglaries in June and the same in July) officers are trying their hardest to keep these figures down, especially over the summer months, with many people not securing their homes properly, leaving windows and doors open.
