Although winter is in full force many home owners are now turning their thoughts towards the inevitable thaw and the endless possibilities of improving the home and garden that springs brings. It is this time of year that people begin to think about the driveway and the possibility of renewing the tarmac or paving.
Block paving the drive is very popular, as is tarmac, and many DIY enthusiasts think that this is a task they can undertake themselves. This is, however, a large scale project involving lots of heavy duty and specialist equipment that can be very costly to hire and, even more so, take years to master the skills to use them correctly. Speaking to local paving and driveway specialists will enable you to get an expert quote and advise on how you go about upgrading your driveway.
The biggest decision facing home owners when considering driveway maintenance is what type of surface they want. There are many options available:
- block paving
- bark
- gravel
- flagstones
- cobblestones
- tarmac
The choice is wide and varied but most importantly, the actual use of the driveway usually decides what type of surface home owners should consider as the most practical option. Cost is another big and obvious factor and depending on your budget, this will massively influence the choices available to you when carrying out any work on your driveway.
Over the next few days I will look at the various surfaces available to cover your drive, the pros and cons of each and the decorative versus durability discussion which, again, is another massive factor to consider when undertaking any work on your driveway.
