Carpet tiles and vinyl floor tiles can be an effective flooring solution for your home, especially in busy family areas of the house. Floor tiles are easy to lay by yourself, requiring minimal DIY skills, and if you are redecorating an average sized room, you shouldn’t need to set aside more than an afternoon to complete the job.
Vinyl floor tiles are useful in areas that you need to keep clean, such as bathrooms and kitchens as they can easily be mopped of wiped down, however they are also a practical, hygienic solution for most other living spaces such as living rooms, utility rooms and conservatories, but are not really best suited to bedrooms. Carpet floor tiles can be used in any room of the house however.
If using carpet floor tiles, effective designs can be created by mixing different colours of carpeting. You could try checkerboard effects, or random squares of different colours to break up large expanses of one colour.
Another benefit of using carpet tiles or vinyl tiles is that if one gets damaged or stained from spillages, it is easy to replace a single floor tile, and relatively cheap compared to having to replace a lino floor or complete carpet. For that reason, choosing floor tiles can be particularly effective in an area used by children or prone to spills. Bearing this in mind, it is worth purchasing a couple of extra tiles that you can then keep in storage and use to replace an old, worn out or stained tile, but it is also worth remembering that the rest of your floor may become faded from daylight and stained or worn from use, therefore when adding the new tile, it could end up standing out as much as the piece of flooring being replaced.
