How to Install a Dishwasher or Washing Machine

You need to firstly spend some time finding a convenient spot to place the machine especially if the connecting pipe and waste pipe are not already installed in your home. All machines need to stand as firm as possible and should ideally be placed against an exterior wall. By placing them against an exterior wall it means there is then no need for waste pipe to be running inside your wall in your house.

Before beginning the installation, you need to locate your stopcock and disconnect the water supply. Always check your appliance’s manual as this will be able to tell you the distance needed between your washing machine, dishwasher and cold water supply.

Most dishwashers only need a cold water supply as they heat the water themselves; new washing machines can also do this, but most washing machines need both cold and hot water supplies. Water is supplied through hoses with screw connectors at both ends, one blue and one red denoting whether it is hot or cold. Checking that there is enough hot water pressure is a major key if you need a hot water supply because the machine is going to be installed upstairs. If you are unsure of how to do this then call a local plumber who can not only check it but also install the machine.

Once these checks have been done you only need to connect the water pipes to the machine but again if you are unsure of how to this then refer to your instruction manual or call a local plumber. Your machine should now be fitted and connected, and just needs to be plugged in to an electricity socket, but just make sure before using the machine that you have removed any packaging from the inside of the machine.
