Have Security in Mind When Landscaping Your Garden

Whilst a beautifully landscaped garden can offer peace and tranquility on those long sunny afternoons and evenings many home owners neglect to think of security when designing their garden and perimeter.   Many landscape gardeners or fence installers will be happy to discuss and offer advice on garden security once asked but if the subject is not broached they do not know your concerns so here I’m going to give you some food for thought on the security of your garden for future landscaping plans.

Nature offers us some of the best natural defences in the form of holly bushes, thorns and hedgerows.  Would be-thieves may think twice about entering a garden surrounded by tactically placed hardy garden plants covered with spiky and pointy thorns.  When choosing plants and shrubs for your garden consider the benefits of intruder protection too.  Hedgerows are not pleasant to crawl through and could offer great protection to your home as well as adding that finishing touch to your perfect garden.

Outside lighting can make great ambient moods for your landscaped garden, and it also offers a visible deterrent to uninvited guests.  When deciding where to place your external garden lighting, also consider how this can light up potential routes into your garden thus making it more difficult for the uninvited visitor to sneek in unseen. A top tip here is security lighting that has passive sensors that light up when movement is detected.

Fencing is another obvious choice in preventing unwanted guests, and can also give privacy from nosey neighbours. Discuss at length with a fencing expert about the strengths and weaknesses of  different types of fences as some offer far stronger defences than others allowing you to further protect your home and garden.

So fences, strategically located plants and shrubs and security lighting are but a few of the potential security features you can can consider when landscaping your garden or updating your foliage.  Each has its own merits and there are plenty of other security measures you can include. Speak directly with one of our expert landscape gardeners and fence installers regarding your ideas on updating your garden as securely as possible. Different professionals have different opinions so it makes perfect sense to make the most of all garden and fence experts, shop around, get plenty of quotes and ideas and plan carefully for that secure perfectly landscaped garden.
