There are many reasons why you may want or need to privatise your garden. Whether it be because you live near a main road, are looking to stop animals coming onto your property or would just like to stop nosey neighbours from peering in, fencing is very handy to keep your space your own. Good fencing can also provide effective shelter for your garden.
The first thing to do is establish the reasons why you’re looking to make your garden more private and then look into any local building codes and regulations regarding limits on privacy fencing, as some areas regulate how tall a fence can be and also where fences can be placed. Once this is established, you then need to choose what type of fencing best suits your needs.
Vinyl fencing is effective because it allows you the choice of full, private or semi-private fencing. Semi-private vinyl fencing has very narrow slats that will provide a guard to your garden but will allow a view in and out. Full private fencing acts as a wall to your garden and therefore removes all the visible area that the semi private fencing gives you. Vinyl fencing is very easy to clean and will withstand weather conditions as it does not crack or chip making it a durable low maintenance fencing option. These final points are among the reasons for making vinyl one of the most popular types of fencing but if you’re looking for a more traditional look then wooden fencing panels should be your next choice.
Wood panels look nice and full or semi private fencing options are available, but it will need to be replaced a lot sooner than the vinyl alternative as weathering over years can rot the wood or leave it brittle and liable to breaking, although individual panels can be replaced or repaired. In the next couple of posts I will continue discussing other types of fencing that can be used to privatise your garden such as bamboo fencing.
