I have recently moved into a new property, and at the time I knew the property needed some home improvements, but I obviously didn’t fully understand the concept of “some home improvements”. The first day I moved in it came to my attention that the wiring didn’t exactly look a 100% safe, as bare wires were hanging out of the kitchen wall and every time I turned the bathroom light on, the electric tripped. So my first job was to call a sparky. Do you know how difficult it is to contact a sparky on a Friday night? It took me the best part of two hours just to get somebody to answer the phone, and then they weren’t prepared to do an emergency call out.
Day two. After the electrician came and told me that I needed a total rewire, I decide to have a shower and low and behold, I am just lathering up my soap bubbles then in one split second I was covered in plaster. I looked up and found I had a big hole in my artex. Typical. I can remember thinking to myself, “Could anything else go wrong?” but I shouldn’t have tempted fate. With the word ‘plasterer’ on my mind, I came out of the shower to a knock on the door.
“Hello?” I said.
“It’s only me from downstairs. I’m just letting you know that water is leaky through the ceiling.”
My first week continued to get worse and worse. I now not only needed the services of a reputable electrician, but also a local plumber and decent plasterer too. I decided that I will not be moving again in the near future, that’s for sure!
